Parsons, KS – Â鶹ÊÓ´«Ã½ÔÚÏßÈë¿Ú (LCC) is proud to spotlight the power of student voices through its 21st Annual “Paper of the Year” Awards, a tradition that continues to celebrate excellence in writing, research, and critical thinking.

The 2025 awards ceremony was held on April 24th, bringing students, faculty, and staff together to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements in academic writing. This year’s honorees are: Jerrica Magner (Third Place), Chloe Doerr (Second Place), and Jen Palmer (First Place). Submissions reflected a variety of disciplines and topics, showcasing the depth and originality of student scholarship across the college.

Each winner received a plaque, certificate, and monetary award, and the first-place paper by Jen Palmer will be preserved in the LCC Library’s permanent collection as a lasting tribute to her achievement.

Palmer, who is currently pursuing her nursing degree, shared her thoughts on receiving the award:

“Returning to college after so many years away was intimidating, but winning this award reminds me that it’s never too late to learn, grow, and succeed. I'm grateful for the opportunity and excited for what’s ahead.”

Selected by a panel of faculty and staff from the LCC Library Committee, the winning papers were recognized for their clarity, structure, analytical depth, and engagement with scholarly material. The awards program aims to honor student excellence and inspire confidence in the value of academic research and communication.

“This award is especially meaningful for students who may not go on to a four-year university,” said Scott Zollars, head of the Library Committee. “It’s a chance for them to shine—to be recognized for their hard work and talent, and to have an experience they can carry with them as a point of pride.”

LCC extends a sincere thank-you to the Library Committee for its continued dedication to student success. Their thoughtful review process and commitment to academic excellence are what make this event a standout each year.
